Is there a definitive roof rack thread, kinda like the tire thread?

My 2012 has the full length roof rails, which, based on what I'm finding, won't work with the ProSpeed flat rack, and a few others that I like.

If I swap them out for the short rails, or no rails, will I be filling the holes in the roof near the front? Blah.

Mainly, I use the roof rack as a platform for my large format camera, and carrying extra fuel in rotopax. I could live with a short rack using the factory rails in the back. I just need it to be low profile. I'm hoping to just leave it on all the time and my garage is 84-86" in the low spots. Having had the full Garvin setup on a Jeep Cherokee, I really don't want to remove a full-size rack on a regular basis. By myself. Yes, been there, done that.

I am in a similar boat. Only option I know of that works with the full length roof rails is the Rhinorack Pioneer platform.

Holes would be covered by 2 black trim strips that snap into the channels.

You cut them to fit when installing short rails.

Check a parts supplier. There is not much to them, which probably means JLR wants a grand for them.

I would actually check one of the Rover salvage yards online. Lr3/4 should be the same.

I think most full length roof racks will use those holes in the front that are currently being used by your long roof rails. Not sure if they would cover up everything you'd want them to cover up, though.

That's nice. If I ever find myself in need of one, I'd probably get that one.

I just installed a full length Front Runner rack to my LR3 that only had short rails. I had to remove the cap in the front protector channel as well as the existing short rails = that exposes the holes that would have been used by your full length rails. The Front Runner mounting system ONLY used the factory holes that were present - no drilling or trimming required.

Your LR3 looks like it is in excellent condition :)

Have always loved the design of those particular OEM 18" rims, aggressive and elegant looking at the same time, sort of complimenting the truck' personality itself. Wish compomotive or someone else came out with a similar design in 18" for LR4.

I agree about the dearth of good style in the aftermarket 18's. With the exception of the new Evo Corse Dakarzero rims, the usual options seem so utilitarian. Many people like that, but I like a little style to go with my substance.

You can run those same wheels with a 1.25" spacer.
