So... I can't say I've read all 25 pages of posts, but I thought I'd give back to the forum by adding my .02c. I used M1EP with a Mahle Filter. My addition to the forum is that I also used a $15 12v pump I got off ebay to suck out the old oil. about 7.75 quarts came out and 8 quarts went back in. The electric oil gauge reads at max. The inexpensive pump is a good alternative to the more expensive Mity Vac. I originally purchased it for a transmission fluid drain and fill. So far I've used it for that, for differential drain and fill, for transfer case drain and fill, and now for oil changes until it dies. At $15 it's a no brainer. The only difficulty was fitting a 1/4" I.D. hose on the ******. Used a lighter to soften the vinyl tubing. My first LR4 oil change was the easiest and cleanest oil change I've ever done.

If I’m not mistaken, the truck takes 8 liters not 8 quarts. Not sure it’s enough variation to cause negative effects, but wanted to give a mention.

I agree, pumping it out is the way to go. I use my mightyvac. Love that thing.

Also, of note, I did give Mobil 1 0w20 high mileage a go on this last oil change. Did notice a improvement on MPG over my typical 5w20. +1 MPG Highway. Now average a bit more than 17.3 MPG with a heavy foot and a ton of wind resistance with my roof rack and light bars. I’ll take it.

This is true. It's about 8.45 quarts. I have been putting in 8.5 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-20. Zero problems.

Now average a bit more than 17.3 MPG
Have you checked this manually, or is this the cars computer? I calibrated my cars computer and average 15 mpg with no mods. Computer for me was 9.5% optimistic.

^^^ This.

Even after the maximum adjustment (±7.5%) via GAP IID tool, the trip computer remains ~5% optimistic vs manually dividing miles traveled by gallons filled.

Over the past 10kmi, my manual calculation shows 15.9 mpg average in mixed use (no long freeway trips). The computer insists on displaying 16-18mpg at the end of each tank. I started noting the computer claim at each fillup to compare to actual. Dunno if there is some component out of calibration, or if JLR was trying to make people feel good when they looked at the trip computer.

Good point...I’m just referring to the computer, but noticed definite improvement with the oil change. I drive back from Hilton Head tomorrow and will calculate it. It’s definitely calculating higher MPG than it was. I didn’t particularly buy the truck for the incredible fuel economy...so ashamed to say I’ve never done the manual calculation.

I will say economy is vastly better than the 95 Classic I was daily driving...

About to have a go at this and went to check the oil level on the 2011 LR4 only to not find a dipstick. I see there is a display option when the engine is off. So I hope it does take 8 qts.

8 liters, not 8 quarts. Correct, no dipstick. If I recall, the gap tool will give you an oil level reading as well in liters (how much is in the sump) even while running. The reading decreases when running for obvious reasons. I may be making that up...but I think I recall seeing it.

So that's 8.45351 quarts (according to google). Here in the US the oil comes in Quarts.

FWIW... I pour in 8 quarts (not liters) after changing the filter and draining the sump via drain plug. Actually 2 gallon jugs, which is easier than 8-9 bottles.

I think the 8 liter spec is max/capacity and it's safe to run slightly below that level.

:ahhhhh:

It’s likely safe, yes, just wanted to verify that the proper fill capacity is liters. I live in the states and fill with jugs as well but do fill to 8 liters.

You are correct - the FSM shows the capacity as 8 liters. Screen shot below.
