Hi,

I have a 2014 LR4 HSE with 73k miles. The dealer just replaced the supercharger isolator spring (LR088538) which was covered under warranty. After driving it for a few days the check engine light came on and per my GAP IID tool the codes indicate that the system is too lean. Is this the result of the changes to the supercharger or something unrelated? If it's related I want to be sure they cover this under the warranty as well and not charge me separately.

Thanks

GAP codes:
PCM-Engine Petrol
  • P2189-00 (AF) System too lean at idle Bank 2
    ( on 19-10-2019 22:29:29 at 118490 km )
  • P2187-00 (AF) System too lean at idle Bank 1
    ( on 19-10-2019 22:29:29 at 118490 km )

Thanks Michael; great write-up and info.

When they replaced the supercharger isolator they replaced two of the gaskets you listed LR041680--supercharger to intake manifold gasket ($45) LR041681--intake manifold gasket ($18 x 2). Do you think they damaged something on the value cover to cause the lean faults when they were working on the supercharger?

Is it only the passenger side valve cover that causes the problem? Do you know why that side?

Do you know if the valve cover replacement is covered by the LR Warranty?

Thanks again

I too had both of these codes thrown while under warranty. The dealership did a smoke test to reveal a vacuum leak in the right side valve cover. They replaced under warranty.

Thanks. I have an appointment on Saturday to take it in. They said they will do a smoke test and it's good for me to know what you guys had done. It's also good to hear the valve cover would be under warranty.

I do not believe that they caused the issue. The pcv diaphragms wear out over time. That is why the right side / passenger valve cover is the fix; because it contains the pcv vavalve.

Fuji had luck just replacing the diaphragm. I tried that, did not work as well for me, and I ended up
Just replacing the whole valve cover.

Good luck to you! Hopefully at the end of this weekend it is all sorted out.

Took it into the dealer on Saturday and it turns out one of the hoses was loose. When they worked on the supercharger a couple weeks ago they did replace a hose so they probably did not tighten it enough. Simple fix but a huge waste of my time....
