Noob here, with a 2016 LR4.

Aside from changing out all fluids and filters on a good schedule, I'm wondering if there is additional preventive maintenance that should be done? For example:

  • I gather there's a moisture accumulator somewhere in the air compressor circuit...is it good to empty that once in awhile? Or to open up, clean out and lubricate the compressor itself?
  • Are there chassis lube points that need to be greased once in awhile, or is everything sealed and just has to be replaced if the lube dries out?
  • Anything related to the rear locking differential that needs particular attention?
  • The plastic coolant Y on top of the engine that seems to fail: should I just replace that with a new part every 50k miles, and keep the old one as a spare? Are there other things like that?
  • Are the axles and other driveline systems sufficiently well sealed and the breathers high enough that you don't have to change fluid every time you go through a puddle? Someone here wrote that water seems to get in anyway.
Just trying to understand some common things I should do, and also maybe what spares you should really have with you at all times.

Thank you for the help!

Brakes seem good..service records show rotors and pads were changed around 8k ago, which seems early: a vehicle that goes through brakes at 40k? But much depends on driving style.

Replace every 60-80k:
water pump
front and rear coolant crossover pipes

Requires more often replacement than almost any other car/truck:
control arm bushings
brakes. heavy truck eats through them.

Replace oil every 5-8k.

besides that, business as usual. maintain per factory schedule.

OH, replace transmission fluid and filter at 100k. not sure if its part of the maintenance, but should be done.

I agree with everything but the trans. I would that at 80K, but I'm old and don't have much better to do than crawl around in my driveway.

Another soft time item on the LR3 is actually the starter and alternator. While you never know when they fail, they will and that will basically leave you stranded anywhere.

so my approach is:

1. ~150,000 replace alternator, starter, earlier if you been going through car batteries every 2 years or so (not everybody seems to have that issue on their LR3, not sure the LR4 has similar specs)
2. on the breather end they are pretty high up on the LR3 so normal driving through puddles shouldnt be an issue, the LR3 had some tech bulletin on crappy filter or no filters installed at breather outlets which could cause a system vacuum in one case front transfer case and might pull in moisture
3. 100,000mi machine brake rotors, or earlier if you do much towing, from my experience they all warp at some time, machining them will get rid of vibration which can reduce brake performance and affect life of other parts in the suspension system such as ball joints or bushings
4. also especially on any exposed external connectors whenever i do a job anywhere i take the opportunity to disconnect every connector in sight use deOXit spray to clean them and then refined pure silicone grease to seal them from moisture, since then it has cut down majorly on some electric gremlins (like parking brake function intermittent)

Yeah, 40k on brakes in these LR4's is very good. My wife has never made it past 32k. The AB kits are relatively inexpensive so I get hose and have a local mechanic do them.

I don't know about the LR but the locking diff on the Jeep Rubicon uses an additive that gets goopy faster than regular diff fluid over time. It doesn't hurt anything but the drag makes the gas mileage go down a small amount and it looks terrible so I change it more frequently.

I've changed the fluid on my locking rear diff. It wasn't goopy at all. Just changed it after a lot of water crossings in the Ozarks natl forest. Good to do every so often.
