Need a new windshield due to large crack. Can anyone recommend a good nationwide company, and a way to make sure I get a LR factory glass as opposed to aftermarket?

(Year ago, I had aftermarket installed in my 2005 L322, rain sensing wipers never worked until they finally replaced it again with LR glass, and I just don't want to go thru that battle again....)

If it's an insurance claim, then about the only thing you can do is battle with the carrier (citing previous experience) and insist on branded OEM glass or glass from one of the handful of OEM sources. In the second option the glass just won't have the LR logo but will come from a company that does provide OEM, such as Pilkington.

If you're paying out of pocket, then you should be able to instruct the installer what you want and get an exact match.

Call your local dealer and ask where they get their glass installed from

just went through this.

geico insurance

i warned geico to put in OEM due to heated windshield and aftermarket not playing well together.
geico didnt approve the request
safelite installed Fuayo glass.
heated windshield didnt work / melted fuses
called geico who then approved OEM.
took 3 weeks to get the glass. it was ordered from my local dealer and shipped here from the UK. arrived and has Land Rover pilkington branding. works perfect.

i can only assume that since my glass was ordered from the UK, there were none in stock in the US.

good luck with your replacement

and just FYI, the cost on the safe lite receipts....Fuayo was about $350. OEM was just under $1000. I paid nothing, but still saw the itemized cost.

For what it's worth, in early December I had a PGW windshield installed and it's worked well so far, both the heating elements and the rain sensors.

That said, if the OEM is an option you can get, it's probably the best.

I think many insurers will let you opt for OEM, but they’ll make you pay the difference. On the other hand, almost all insurance company providers (glass outfits) are able to source Pilkington windshields. In my opinion, it’s not worth the extra out of pocket expense (about $600 or so) for the LR brand over Pilkington. Especially given how easily all these windshields crack and chip due to the high angle of the windshield.

I know some of these off-brands have issues with the heating filaments drawing too much current. I haven’t heard of that with a Pilkington, and my non-LR Pilkington has been fine.

I can vouch for the quality/function of non-LR logoed Pilkington glass. I had that in my 2011 and never had an issue with heating filaments or rain sensing functions.

Statefarm let me install OEM, at the dealership. Didn't argue with me or anything, I asked though.

i find it interesting that people arent having trouble with Fuayo glass. i had 2, both had fuse issues.

Geico/safelite never gave me an option of Pilkington. it seemed to be either cheapest available or [eventually] OEM, the most expensive.

I wonder if MY makes a difference how windshield performs?
