Originally from a forum in New Zealand I believe. They were having the same conversation a few years back. Yes it is photoshopped.

Isn't that what this entire thread is about, my dude?

Sorry, man,
I understood that the discussion was about LR4's powered by diesel. We know those vehicles only have air inlet on one side. unlike LR4´s V8´s, everything is double. 2 air intakes, 2 MAF´s, 2 air filters... by the way, as someone said, there is no way to simply seal one side because the system will be confused and the lights will start to flash.
Perhaps the solution is to actually put 2 snorkels, 1 on each side like the pic:);)

Gas powered LR4 does not need snorkels.

I'd like to hear more about the "why not?" part of this comment. The only thing I can think of is that the intake is a Y, and it is less likely to have both left and right intakes underwater? And that gas engines don't breathe as much at idle as diesels do.

Even so, I don't see why deep crossings are any less of a threat to a gas engine than to a diesel.

Diesels don't have ignition systems. Theoretically they can run under water if you keep the intake above water. A gasoline engine had an electronic ignition system. Get this below water (or splash it heavily) and it is game over. Modern systems are protected better but I wouldn't want to submerge the coil packs on a gasoline LR.

So I think more what you meant is "equipping a gas-powered vehicle with snorkels may protect the engine from inhaling water, but it won't protect the electronics."

Well it will stop you dead in your tracks so there is no point in addressing one if something else is going to stop it. Like locking the front door and having the back one wide open. Plus IMO most snorkels look ******* . YMMV.

Have you seen this video on youtube?

A guy with an LR4 V8 4.4 with only one side snorkel. I would very much like to know how he did it.

If it is a "4.4L Discovery" it is probably an LR3. Note the black wheel arches (not body colored as in the LR4), and the oval-shaped turn signal on the body.
