Evening, I have a 2011 LR4 with the 5.0. Attempting to replace the evap detection pump above the spare tire area. Would you have any procedural resources on how a DIY might complete a R&R? Thanks
Kelly

Its a pain, but not difficult. Jack the suspension up to off-road height, lower and remove the spare. There are three (I think) bolts to remove the evap canister, remove those. You won't be able to take the canister out but it will be loose in place. There are two hoses for the pump, one big one just pops off, and I think the other was a clip. Then there are three bolts for that. You need to fiddle with the canister to move it around to get the bolts out and then get the part out.

Installation is reverse of removal. It helps to have a creeper with an adjustable headrest or even better a lift. Took me about an hour to do it.

103,000 miles and I got the same code.

I ordered the Bosch DM-TL pump from rockauto and installed it today.

Removed my spare, went to work and the 3 10mm bolts that hold the entire evap canister on (pretty sure that's what it is called) were all rusted out and weren't going to move.

So I removed my rear passenger spare tire and removed the pump from there.

Everything was super easy to get off, except one of the T-20 Torx screws. There is a bracket that is in the way, so I basically used a 90 degree screwdriver and got it out pretty easily. Torx keys would work too.

Had a little bit of difficulty getting the electrical clip to hook back in, but nothing too bad. Took less than 2 hours including tool cleanup.

This has been an extremely useful thread I am greatful I was able to find it. Wonder if I could get an opinion on this situation. I have a 2011 LR4 5.0 and recently had the dmtl pump replaced. But I continued to have the burping sound from the gas tank and the check engine light stays on. I took it to Auto zone and they performed the free diag and it came back as small evap leak associated typically to dmtl. I let my local indy know and understandably they wanted to do their own diag. They came to same conclusion and did not charge the usual $150 for diag since they recently replaced the dmtl. BUT they wanted to have it back in to further diag. After doing so they recommend replacing the purge valve due to intermittent code andno hard codes for dmtl. This time they charged the $150 diag cost as well. My question...am I getting jobbed by these guys? If the diag was associated to dmtl I wouldn't have to pay. But now its magically something else which means they can charge for diag now and also charge for a new seperate repair. Also seems everytime I take it in another problem arises that makes me take it back in for them to charge me more. Also one timei took it in for routine oil change and they never replaced the oil so since then I have been skeptical. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If a shop forgot to change the oil when I brought the car in for an oil change, that would be the last time they saw me. Do you have alternative indy shops you could try?

Have you had the fuel pump recall done? That can trigger the EVAP code as well.

I am currently looking. These guys are fairly well known but maybe they are getting sloppy.

I did have it done by this same shop prior to the recall. Ever since then seems have had plenty of fuel type issues including fuel injectors where car basically shut off and I got a message saying something about speed restriction.

An indy and not a dealer? seems like they did it wrong, or it's still leaking or leaking from somewhere else. either way, you need the new parts or it will eventually fail again anyway.

I replaced the DMTL with a Bosch matched part and am still getting the error code, any suggestions? My old one still has resistance from the ground pin to each of the others, although two are at ~30 and one at 100. Do I need to pin out the wiring harness to look for the source of resistance? I can’t find a good diagram to pin out this part of the harness, so any help would be appreciated.

One aside is that after I replaced the DMTL I found f the primary purge valve tubing disconnected and reconnected it. Can’t imagine that would wreck the new part, but who knows? Mine is a 2016 LR4
