Check your oil weekly? If you are very **** it is quite possible to make your own dipstick and use the suction tube. Again what is weird is huge oil loss with no warning from the idiot gauges.

I would cry too.
It seems the vehicle's oil level warning is unreliable. I check my oil levels religiously at least once a month on the LR4 and found I was a quart low once and there was no warning indicator. The vacuum pump gaskets are prone to leaking which was the issue with mine. I wish there was a dipstick! I check my LR3 oil level at every fuel up.

My biggest problem with the dipstick in dash is that I'll want to check it, but muscle memory is to put my foot on the brake and push the button.

Sometimes. You can turn the ignition off, then back on.
Select the oil level function. Push the cruise control "cancel" button twice. Oil level should come up.

The 1 quart in 500 miles story is thirsty, but the real issue is having to check the oil. Waiting for the computer to initialize and god forbid if a door is open then its even more time before the oil gauge is accessible, if its ready. Meanwhile all that juice is draining from the battery. So there can be a failure for not checking and there could be a fail case where I drain the battery down trying to check the oil and it won't start.

I've been thinking about installing an AGM 60A charger in the engine bay that way it can maintain from the Lifepo4 pack and inverter. The ignition could take all day to boot then I wouldn't care lol.
