Wanted to get some feedback on how everyone takes care of their LR4s undercarriage as I am curious how everyone else goes about it. I live at the beach and drive on the sand rather often. I do my best to clean under there when I can and also drop my skids and clean a little more in depth after returning from an off roading event up north. Occasionally I will soak a rag with WD40 or some other type of lubricating oil and wipe down the frame. It seems to be holding up well but still showing some rust here and there (inevitable with where I live) which I plan to throw some POR-15 rust preventative paint on. Any other suggestions that you all have found to be effective? Thank you in advance!

Check out a boaters product call “Salt-a-Way”.....I use it on a saltwater boat, trailer, flushing the engine and on all my car undercarriages....pricey but great product.

Post beach and a few times in winter I liberally soak the undercarriage.

I hit rusty areas rust reformer spray every time I swap tires. It's black and chemically treats the rust. After a first couple of years of surprising amounts of surface rust it's been under control.

Seems great. I still rather stick to rust reformer for directly applying to rust, but a coat of this stuff once the reformer dries seems like a good move. This can also be applied on all sorts of other surfaces, so I think I'll try it, but I'll stay off cosmetic surfaces for now.

I guess I need to start reading up on this stuff.

My wife just put a contract on a house on Cape Cod.

This will be the first time I have ever owned property outside of Texas, and I am thinking an old ass Defender would be fun for running around the Cape and hopefully exploring VA, NH and ME.

Is this critical for a New England rig? Will it rust to pieces without it after a couple of winters?

Only thing that ever rusts down here are brake rotor faces, which are self-cleaning....
