I just had my air compressor go out at 49k, luckily I'm barely still under warranty. Has anyone had 2 air compressors go out under 100k? Dealer says the new ones they are putting in are much better then the original OEM that were installed.

Second compressor at about 50,000 miles

I assume you are talking miles, but yes, two in 50 thousand miles of the older designs is very possible. It you original lasted for 49,000 miles, you did very well.

Your dealer is correct in that Land Rover is slowly learning how to build a 250 psig single stage air compressor that will last longer than the new car warranty period.

The good news is that the current replacement compressor for the LR3 is exactly the same compressor as goes into the new D4/LR4. That means that while they probably have not got it right yet, that LR has a reason to keep revising the design to at least last for the life of the original factory new vehicle warranty.
