Disco engine issue/ maybe fuel delivery?

On our 96 disco I was driving on the highway a few weeks back, and granted I was going pretty quick, about 90mph, and the engine just cut out, just for a second, kinda like I hit a governer.. I wrote it off as a "hey dude you are going to fast" - again last night it did this to me at about 70mph. It's only happened those two times, and has only happened when I drive it (my wife drives it all week long and has never had this happen) I wonder if this is the impending sign of something that is about to go wrong. Anyone have a problem like this or have enough knowledge of the system to make a good guess?

Jim, It is a little early to give much help but would suggest you look at all your electrical connection. If it were fuel it wouldn't cut out so quick and clean and then restart the same way.
Look at all you grounds and connectors for dirt or being loose.
And yes, it souunds like something that is going to get worse until it is found. Have you had any check engine lights that have stayed on yet?

My wife has a 98 Disco that the same thing was happening to. It turned out to be electrical. The fuel pump was not getting the correct volts it needed. We had a local shop trace it to a relay(it was not getting 12 volts, he said it was only getting like 5). It sounds like the same problem, cutting out power for 1 or 2 seconds then everything seemed fine.

Sounds more like a VSS issue. When it starts to go bad, it will send bad data to the ECU, making it think you are going faster then the rev limiter is allowed to go. Try dropping down to 3rd gear the next time this happens, if fixes the issue quickly, then the VSS is the issue.

Also there are two connectors for the fuel pump then tend to get corrosion issues, one is near the frame next to the drivers rear tire. The other is at the fuel pump itself, both can get corrosion build up causing heat and a bad connection.
