discovered something weird with air suspension

Suspension lowers 1 inch when speed reaches 160 km /h.No beeps , no flashes,just lowers to reduce a drag.

...I think if you're on a very smooth interstate it would not be bad for the suspension, and may help gas mileage when travelling between 55 and 70 MPH.

Seems like an interesting feature, although I'd be surprised if 1" really reduced drag or made any measurable difference in mileage.

I havent driven our LR3 close to 100mph, nor do I have any real desire too. I wonder if even at 5800lbs it start to 'float' badly, with all of the air underneath it. Seems like it has the potential too.

Anyone ever cruise that fast?

I've done 110, although that was only for a brief segment of time. I don't know that I've "cruised" anywhere near that fast but 80, yes...and the LR3 doesn't really float. 80 feels much the same as 60, to me.

...but I have little to no experience with high-performance "fast cars" so it could be that I'm just not sensitive enough to know what is good or bad in terms of handling. It felt pretty smooth to me.

i have gotten up to a 100 just to see if it would do it. Drives the same as when you are going 70. Actually pretty impressed with its handling at higher speeds.

I have a heavy foot sometimes and 80 to 85 on the highway in no traffic happens frequently.

I have the too fast speed set at 85.

Coming from a 1999 Range Rover, it feels like a Formula One car to me.
Is this 1 inch lowering thing actually confirmed? It's the first I've ever heard of it. The Range would do it if you went over 60 for a minute, not much point in it doing it over 100.

It is confirmed.
Our beloved Lr3 has 7 different height modes.
-Transportation mode(famous bump stops) accessible only via dealers computer
-access mode +2 "
normal drive mode +2
off road +2,extended more+2,super ext.(I believe +1) and
high speed mode + 160 kph when suspension actually lowers one inch automatically to reduce drag.This speed is pretty common on German autobahns.

I'm sure it drives the same... My bigger concern would be actually trying to stop it.

Glad to hear the LR3 is capabale from crawling at <1 mph, to speeds well passed the century.

Previously the RRS was the only one to lower at high speed. The LR3 did not do this. I know the 2005 LR3 does not lower, but the 2005 RRS does. What year did this change? Are you 100% sure that the LR3 lowers at high speeds? That is hte first I have heard of that on the LR3.

Lowering on the freeway

I got this reply while I was on I-65 here in Nashville. So I thought, maybe I'm crazy and started this all for naugh -- but indeed... If I lower my 2005 HSE (build date 03/05 so it seems to be a later 05) to access, when going over 70 or so, it shows "lowering" on the 4wd info AND it does feel like it lowers a little bit to access. It then says "Access" on the 4wd info screen and hte little truck icon with the down arrow shows up in the speedo cluster area. It rides like in access height (ie not on bumpstops but "differently"). And it'll stay there until I bring it back with the height control to normal. I tried it on very smooth, steady, straight highway, and you can feel it lower and raise back up.

The_only_ think i can think. My 05 was bought in Germany by a guy in the US military. Maybe _MAYBE_ for some reason it has some other suspension software in there. It had those TSB's/recalls/etc done for the suspension in Germany, I have it in the service history.

I dunno, maybe it has a software glitch. But it definitely lowers at highway speeds and stays there (not just the 'select access 30 seconds before slowing down thing"
