Started this morning, egnine service soon light lit. Engine idle rough, smoky exhuast more than usual and smell like rotten egg. Check my oil, coolant air intake filter, it appeared to be fine. Ticking or knocking sound also appear to around and of the valve cover, driver side. It appear to be getting worse. I haven't check plugs and wire yet, it sound to me like a fuel issue than mechanical is correct. I fuel with 91 or 93 octane all the time. Everything just happen this morning.

Sounds like a bad Catylitic converter... start it in the dark and see if one is glowing.

I don't see and glow, but now the oil pressure indicator is lit but I'm showing enough oil on the dipstick, above the add mark. Also the engine is ticking like crazy, I'm thinking that the oil pump not putting out enough oil pressure and that noise is probably from the lifters. But when I give it some gas, the oil low oil pressure indicator goes away, but comes back once I let my foot off, the ticking noise is still there. Sound like it is missing too.

Agree with Joey. The screen at the end of the pick up tube can get loaded with sludge. I have cleaned mine twice. Once when I bought it in Nov. 04 and this past October. You'll be amazed at the crud. This past October, the light came on just as I was picking up a client at the airport in St. Louis. I had just driven down from Chicago. I knew what the problem was but there was no way to do the clean up 300 miles from my garage at home. So after my meetings and dropping the client back at the airport, I put two botlles of Slick-50 in and crawled back up I-55. I stopped at every exit and rest stop and kept my speed under 60. Took 8 hours to get back. I thought I was going to ruin the motor but after cleaning the pick up there was no noise and no engine damage.

One of those Rover never leaves you stranded stories.

I'll try that, hopefully is that easy. What amaze me is that the car only has 29000 miles on it and shouldn't an oil pan clean up. I'll update once I get to figure it out. I'm still puzzle with the fact that, I started it and the engine service light lit and the car ran like crab. 30 minutes later, my low oil lit and the ticking noise became more apparent. Does it sound to you that I have multiple problems. I haven't change out the spark yet. I'm going to look into that first and then drop the oil pan. If you have any more suggestions or experiences, please reply.

Do you have a code reader to check why the service light came on?

Plugs could be fouled. I'd clean and re gap them. Also check your ignition wires. Make sure you have good connections at both ends.

Good luck.
