I had a head gasket replaced on my 2000 Discovery and a month latter the problem returned: coolant gets into the oil again. The dealer (who has done the work originally), says I should get a new engine as probably the block is cracked. Not mentioning that my original expense of $2,500 is not recoverable, which is ridicolous, but it is a totally different subject. The Disco has only 100K KM (60K miles) and they say it is a common problem for this engine.
I am afraid that even if I replace the engine (for another used one) the problem my retrun again soon.
Does anyone have any advice on this issue? Are there any other engines that will fit and don't have this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Personally I think that the dealer is just getting an excuse for his first blunder by not checking the engine block at the time of replacing the gasket. If a head gasket blows out, it has a reason, therefore it is common to verify the block and cylinder head while it is apart for its lining or cracks. If no serious deformation, Block ( then you have to take the engine out) and Head can be easily machined and with a new gasket your problem is solved. Even cracks in a block get welded again.
If this is common on Disco's > Unless the engine block had been machined before to increase the compression, got overheated (running without cooling water) or over torque while reassembling, it is definitely not common to my knowledge. Yes, it is known, everything breaks down on a disco from the date the guarantee expires and they are probably designed like that, but the block themselves is one of the few things Landrover made, we do not have to think about it. If it was my truck, avoid the dealer, remove the head which is not such a big issue and get it verified for cracks and if re-facing is still an option.
