With 33" tires, and the truck on the bump stops due to a hard suspensions failure that can't be reset via diagnostics (such as a blown air bag), the LR4 would be undriveable. This was confirmed by the guys at Overland Journal, who run on such a setup in their project LR4. There are companies making CNC machined, aluminum 2" strut spacers, which could help in such worst case scenario. My guess though is that the "sweet spot" is right around 32 - 32.5" for a stock vehicle.

Hey all,

The guys in Australia run a 265/70R18 (32.6) and Llams and they are doing just great.
Sasquatch rods (blackforestham) pmed me that 275/65 (32.1) would be the sweet spot and I also took the time to double check with Johnson Rods who said that using the rods it would not need modification and just get an alignment.

Check YouTube for videos especially Misadventure 4WD.
Here is a link to one of the videos: http://youtu.be/uTW3H4WBxnY
Check the comment section, their words "Tyres are only 265/70/18." In answer to my question regarding tire size.

Fantastic Video, but keep in mind that their tires are 265/70R17 (31.7). The Aussie and UK models have smaller break discs an can fit the 17 inch wheels. Not sure though if I saw the correct video as the one you posted is for the 2014 Stingray. Nice car, but these tires definitely will NOT fit.

Indeed not the right video (iPad link copy and paste...).
This one should be: http://youtu.be/uTW3H4WBxnY

According to a tire/ rim comparator the size is indeed 32.6 and not 31.7 (BFG TA KO in 265/65 comes out at 31.7 due the tread amount).
I was just again double checking on some tire dealers website.

They do also have the large brakes on the 3.0 Diesel according to the LR workshop manual... Which is why the Compomotives are selling so well in Australia.

Far as i know the largest recommended tire size for the LR4 measures 803x285mm...the 265/65/18 is about 801x265mm. 285/60/18 is 799x285mm

For reference stock 255/55/19 is 763x255mm

Yep, I see it. 32.6 seems huge, not sure I believe that these will fit without some serious trimming. Very cool video though.

Ok, I'm in the process of ordering 5 new Compo wheels, 5 new TPM Sensors, and now I'm looking at tires. Most everyone seems to be using the 265/65/18 wheels which measure out at about 31.5x10.4. Has anyone tried an LT275/65/18? I'm not pushing for a bigger tire, just curious.

It should be around 32.1x10.8. I'm changing because the redbourne wheels along with 275/55/20 at 31.9 rub like hell, so I'm not too interested in any rubbing. I plan to keep at least 50mm of lift in place once I change the tires, so that may help. Right now I'm torn between the Toyo ATII and the BFG A/T. Both are great tires, but the price of the Toyo's may win the race.

Any thoughts???

Sounds like you have a great plan and ideas ahead... I just recently went with the 265/65/18 Toyo ATII's and couldn't be happier. Haven't been off the pavement yet, but the value and cost is what sold me. I think its tough to beat but then again I'm anticipating some of you going larger and hearing the experiences!!!

Honestly, the 265/65R18 looks too stock to me. I understand the tire is larger, but I think I want more. I know we have talked about the 275/65R18 which is right at 32.1", but is anyone running them? I'm ok with running up to 50mm of lift, but I'd really like to avoid the rub. Can anyone provide experience on this size with the compo PD1880's?

How about a 255/70R18 which measures out at 32.1 x 10?

Here's another Dumb question, while I know I can look up the facts, I'm looking for opinion. Are you guys going with Passenger (P) or Light Truck (LT) tires? I'm leaning more towards the P for the ratings and ride. It seems for true off road durability the LT is usually stronger, but I'm sure the ride would suffer. Lets face it, we want the very best of both worlds. Opinions?
