I had to replace mine, I forget if I went LR060016 to LR090489 or the other way around, but the new part was different from the old one. No problems and no need to program anything. I believe the suffix is the edition / revision. Again, mine was different but no problems.

To close out this thread I'm happy to report that I've installed the gear selector which came in with the -AC suffix and it works like a charm.

My fingers are crossed regarding longevity—seems like there are some fragile components within—sniffing around the internet yields stories of zip-tie workarounds, bad solder joints on the circuit board, etc. The fix is not hard, but it's such a catastrophic and unpredictable failure that I'm tempted to keep a spare in the back.
