Just got an 04 SE and, of course, it has the two cupholders in the front. I want to get rid of the one on the driver's side because it's right where my knee is and it's quite uncomfortable. I can see how to remove it very easily. What I'm interested in is has anyone done this and finished the plastic where the holes are so it doesn't look horrible? I'd have to have such a beautiful Disco with the hole in the plastic there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I may be mistaken but I thought the cup holders were glued/bonded in place, not bolted or screwed?

It looks as though there are 2 screws holding it in place: one on the side and one in the center of the actual holder. However, there will be two holes (obviously) when I remove it. I'm just looking for a good way to make that look better.

Thanks.

i dont think there are holes IN on the bottom part. the screws just grip it i believe. try taking them off seeing how it looks.

The screws do ********* the center console. You'll also have to twist the larger insert (black portion), not the small one that lifts out, and pull it out in order to get to the second screw. When you take the screws out there will be two small holes visible

Yup

Took it off the other day. Feels much better on my knee. However, there are two holes on the top and one on the side. I'm not concerned about the one on the side since it's not terribly visible but the two on the top are visible.

Just wondering if there are any good tricks for filling those holes so they don't look so bad.

Hmm...

Hadn't thought of that stuff. I'll have to poke around and see if I can find them.

Thanks again.

I actually have a 97 Disco, and I bought the cup holders to put in. When i put it in the first time (drilled the holes) i screwed up and they went in crooked, the second time was worse, so on the third attepmt i got them right. Now, to answer your question, i had to fill in the four holes i made, so what i did was use a gunsmithing product called acraglas. Any good gunshop should have it. It is a resin that you mix, and just spread on and into the holes. Just use a little, and put it right into the hole, and smooth it out with your finger. If your interior is tan, just mix the two products one to one, and it dries just about the same colour as the interior. If it is black or charchol inside, it comes with a little tube of black dye, and just add a little to it to get the colour required. Actually it comes with brown dye too, so you could add a little of that to darken the tan to a near perfect colour match. I got lucky because on the third attempt at drilling, the cup holders cover the filled holes.

Good luck.
