High Revs when Starting

Hi all, I have a 2001 LR Discovery II with about 89,000 miles on it. Lately, when it is started it revs high and may hold the high revs for a second before it drops. Any ideas on where to start? I have heard that D1's had issues with the throttle position sensor, maybe the same thing here? Where is it and is there anyway to tell if it is bad?

Clean the MAF sensor, check air filter. Also when was the last tune up?

Are you full of Anti-freeze?

I'll check those things, the last tune up was last week and it was doing it before then but my wife didn't tell me. At the tune up they did oil/lube/filter, and plug wires because of some fraying causing a misfire. They said everything else was good and there were no other issues.

If they didn't change the plugs, I would consider changing them.

Just to update, I've checked the air filter and it is good, anti-freeze is good, I haven't been able to clean the MAF as it is held in with some security type bits but I should be able to get to it soon. The plugs weren't changed, but they were changed at about 65,000. LIke I said it only does the high revs after it has been sitting for a while and at that it is a bit intermittent. It is starting to hold them higher for a bit longer though. However, it does go away as it warms up. Maybe it is temp related as it is getting cooler in the mornings up in these northern parts.

Any other suggestions?

Do not remove the security bits as you put it... you can clean the MAF, just by unhooking it out of the intake. remove from air box, remove from intake tube... unplug from wiring harness... spray cleaner in from the mesh side.

Also clean the intake butterfly while you are in there.

Will do, what type of cleaner do you spray in there to clean it out?

Nevermind, I see there is actual MAF cleaner out there.

Just to follow up so far, I cleaned the MAF and the butterfly valve (valve wasn't too dirty but there was a little residue on it) and so far so good, we are two days since the cleaning. Thanks for your help, will post again if problem comes back.

Ok, I am now getting codes P1172 and P1175. Also, I did some further digging and most people are saying that cleaning this particular MAF is a bad idea, that it is too delicate and cleaning will damage.
