Well I tried to hard reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the negative terminal on the battery and no luck so I guess it's off to the dealership for a software update. There are two places that I called and the guys sound like some stand up techs told me they could get a key cut and programmed for a total of $250 compared to the Dealer of $395 and they also said they would do a software update for $100 compared to the dealer of $165. If anyone is in the MD,DC or Northern Va area, here are the two sites you can go to.http://www.4x4-land.com/main.asp and http://www.loudounrover.com/cu.php.

i appear to be having the same issue with my 05 lr3.. no sound/volume from any source. i checked all the infotainment related fuses and the fuse for the amp. all checked out. disconnected the battery for > 5 minutes. still no luck. verified that the amp is getting power and the fibre optics are showing light so it appears the amp is getting power and signal so i don't think it's an issue with the head unit. this issue has been going on for 2 weeks now and the shop wants to diagnose the vehicle for an entire day.

My radio had a similar-sounding problem (2005 LR3) a couple years ago. The fix was (allegedly) replacement of memory chips or memory buffers. In short, the radio unit "core" did not need to be replaced, but the memory (and the firmware on the memory) was zapped. The memory cannot be separated from the core by the dealership; so they replaced the whole thing. But, the dealership charged me (out of warranty) only for the replacement memory--they said LR reimburses the dealership for the cost of the radio unit "core" and recycles it for use in other LR3s. In any event, no problems since then.

Similar issue here. The difference is I actually have a blown fuse, and the nav display is not working when the fuse blows.

I had the dealer check it out last week & they found nothing wrong (it was working on a 10a fuse at the time). The day after I got the LR3 back the fuse blew again!! Here's my thread with more detail -

I recently had an issue that may be the problem that is being described in this thread, but I am unsure so I will describe my issue and my solution.

I have a 2005 LR3 HSE, no installed bluetooth phone. I loaned the car to a friend and when it was returned the radio was having an issue. It would turn on, switch between accessories, but would not produce any sound. Turning the volume knob would not switch the display to show the volume level as it normally would, it just did nothing, yet the volume knob would work in settings modes that used the volume knob to make changes.

Reading the forums I found lots of information about upgrading the firmware in the radio, replacing the radio, checking the fuses, muting/un-muting the radio, disconnecting the battery to reset the computer. Nothing that really made sense, except perhaps the muting/un-muting thoughts, except there doesn't seem to be a way to mute or un-mute the radio.

On a fluke I was going through the tone settings in the radio... the place where you have base, treble, balance, fade, a few other things, including "Reset Tone Settings". So I decided to see what 'Reset Tone Setttings" did and, um, it fixed the issue. So somehow the radio was "muted" or something, and there wasn't an "un-mute" but resetting the tone settings resolved the issue. I don't understand it, but was happy to find a solution that didn't cost anything.

I'm having the same problem with my 06 LR3. Radio and CD player are working but no sound. Tried the tone settings but that didn't help. Anyone know of where I can take it to get checked in Winnipeg MB?

I am having a similar issue with my 08 LR3. Radio works, I ASSUME the amp is still good. However, I can cycle through the menu on the radio to that "tone reset", however I can not select yes! Any insight on that?

One size fits all - well when I have a radio / entertainment / nav problem, I do a hard reset per below. For the most part, the reset has got the system going again. At such time as the hard reset does not work, then I will be in real difficulty.

Hard Reset Instructions

In brief, to start the hard-reset process, open the hood but close all doors and let your 3 go to sleep - no radio display etc and no key in the ignition. This will take a couple of minutes and do not open any doors until the reset is completed. (I find that it is often a good idea to have the driver’s door window rolled down and the key in one’s pocket whenever fooling about the vehicle.)

Also, when I play with a car battery, I remove any rings I have from my fingers, also my watch. Have the car keys in your pocket.

Disconnect the ground battery terminal from the main starting battery.
Disconnect the positive battery terminal from the main starting battery.

The reason for this order is if a wrench or loose battery cable ends grounds to the body, no arcing or other bad things happen.

(I assume that you only have one battery in your 3. If not, disconnect the others as well and leave them disconnected until after all is done.) I have the Traxide dual battery system installed.

Connect the negative cable end to the positive cable end. (NOT to the battery.) To do this, you will need a short length, (a foot or so), of light gauge, (14 to 18 gauge AWG, insulated stranded copper), wire to span between the battery cable ends as there is not enough slack in the positive and negative battery cables for the ends to be able to touch each other.

Hold all together for about a minute or more, (suggest at least two minutes), as you are discharging memory modules within the engine computer and elsewhere. Then it is suggested you then just let all sit disconnected for say ten minutes, (minimum five minutes), prior to commencing to put the battery cable ends back on the battery posts per the following order.

Reattach positive terminal to the main starting battery positive post.

Reattach negative terminal to the main starting battery negative post.

Start engine and hopefully none or at least fewer warning lights and the radio when turned on plays music rather than being silent.
Reset time on the radio - note that the station presets are still there as not everything is erased. Nothing much else needs resetting either.

You can also now connect up the other batteries if you have a multiple battery setup.
