i know there is tons of tire talk around here. Im looking for reviews after some mileage has been put on your new set of tires. Specifically 18" stock size (at least without too much change in diameter) tires for mostly on road and occasional trail use. Looking for hands on reviews only. Thanks in advance.

We have the General Grabber AT2s in 255/60R18 and have generally been very pleased with them. Here is a quick compilation of some of my more recent posts on them:

We've had them for ~7000 miles now. Great in the snow, OK on ice, OK in the mud and seem to be good offroad (I've haven't done anything too extreme in them though). We also took a 2500 mile trip in them over Christmas - cruised awesome at 90mph, very quiet for the tread pattern, no tramlining, just a nice smooth ride. They also seem to have excellent treadwear - I haven't noticed any wear so far.

BTW - our Land Rover dealer puts them on all their CPO cars, so they must be pretty darn good.

One more quick addition - if I had been paying for them, I would have considered putting on the BFG ATs to get the extra ground clearance (they only come in a slightly larger size). But since we didn't pay for them (they came on the car when we bought it), I couldn't be happier

I'm not sure on the Silent Armors, but we recently put the General Grabber AT2s on our LR3 in 255/60R18 and we have been very happy with them (good on the road, good treadwear, good off road, good price, pretty hard to beat). They are also what our dealer puts on the majority of their CPOs.

It looks like you also might be in Colorado - you can get the Grabbers from Discount Tire and they will typically beat TireRack and I've always been extremely pleased with their service in Colorado Springs.

Yep. We've had the AT2s on our LR3 for about 8k miles now. In general, I'm very pleased with them - good wear, good noise, good in the mud, good in the snow, good on the road, OK on ice. Notice they aren't great at anything, but they are good at everything. And for the price, they are pretty hard to beat. They won't be as good as a dedicated winter tire, but we've been very pleased with them as a year round tire.

The only bad thing I've heard about them is that they can be difficult to balance, but I haven't seen any problems with that.

BTW - I'm also in Colorado and spend quite a bit of time in the mountains/snow. They can't change the laws of physics, but I'm very pleased with them.

18"s...

I know you said stock size but I could not be happier with my BFG AT KO 265/65/18. They look great, they ride great and would not ever go back to stock size.

To be honest, we are very pleased with the Grabber2s, but I'll probably go Josh's route or a set of Cooper Zeon LTZs next. If you are dead set on staying in the stock 18" size, the Grabber2s are (IMO) your best bet for an AT. But if you want a little more ground clearance, or a more aggressive tread offroad, there are many other options.

I have a set of the Cooper Zeon LTZ's and love em. I get an extra .75" ground clearance, have had no rubbing issues so far, and they ride nice both on and off the pavement. I've heard the grabbers are nice, as others here have pointed out and the BFG's of course are very popular but it's my understanding they wear fast and at $225 each that's a bit of dosh to replace. The Coopers are only $155 each.

tommithy...have you checked the rubbing situation when you are in access height and at full wheel turn one way or the other? I rub on the fenders and I've been trying to determine whether or not that is due to the rims (different offset).

thanks for all the replies. 85% of my driving is on road. I want to keep (actually never had) a good ride. The goodyears gotta go. I dont want to worry about any rubbing or any worse mileage. I had BFG's on everything Ive ever owned but dont want to put them on my LR. The Zeon's look great but dont look like that smooth of a ride. Although, never got to ride on them. Im also looking at the Bridgestone AT REVO's. They have a nice pattern and my customers always told me that they liked them. Plus they have the stock size. As long as their is no rubbing or noticable mileage difference Im up for whatever.

edit:
bad info. the revo's are not available in the correct size.
The coopers are also over a half inch on either side larger, 30mm at least by spec. This is not enough from what I read to rub?

I have and can find no rubbing on mine.
