The steering knock I have is very noticeable during slow speeds under 5mph. When you drive over small bumps or potholes the steering wheel and pedals clunk. You can also feel it if you press the brake sharply at slow speed, just a quick noise and thud. My warranty expires in a year so I'm not taking any chances.

Yeah...I hear/feel that "knock" when I go over sharp bumps, especially when I'm offroad. I am not sure that this is abnormal. It's reasonable that this is just the sound that the components make when they transfer the load into the steering wheel and your hand. It could simply be just feedback.

...but yeah look into it and please post back anything you find out.

The knock is a known issue - I believe it requires replacement of a few front suspension pieces. I had exactly what you guys are describing - took it to my dealer and the problem has been gone since.

richpike, was there a TSB on this? If it is a problem then I want to have it fixed. If it's more of an annoyance but not a big deal then it doesn't bother me. Do you remember what they said?

I think there was a TSB. It has been a little while - all I remember was everytime we pulled in to our driveway you could feel a knock back through the steering wheel. Drove me nuts - my wife never noticed it  It was easily reproduceable by the dealer, plus it was a pretty well known issue - I read quite a bit about it on different forums.

I'll see if I can find the TSB number.

Most of the time the knock is from the upper and lower control arm bushings wearing out. I have had them replace a couple of times. It wears more if you go offroad, or over obstacles a lot. It should be covered under warranty or the extended warranty.

I don't really feel a knock, but have been starting to hear some groaning in the suspension... would you say this is consistent with the TSB issue?

Thanks.

Mine is being fixed for the knock right now. If you have the knock you'll know, the pedals and the wheel clunk. It's more of an annoyance than anything else. I'm having it fixed because I feared it would get worse. Should have it back tomorrow.
