Hi all......just bought a new travel trailer, dry weight is a little over 3700#......will be towing behind my 96 Range Rover 4.0. The question I have is: How do I hook up the tongue to the truck (using the Weight Distribution Bar) Knowing that the truck is higher at rest then lowers when you hit 55.
Is there a way to lock the height of the suv in so that it doesn't move up and down?

Also, these models can tow like 7000#'s right?

TIA,

~Ray:hello:

Not sure about locking in the height, but high range towing is 5500# and low range towing is 7500#.

Well I looked it up in the Owners manual (pg#108) and it states that: "The suspension is designed to cope with a heavy trailer load without upsetting the balance or feel of the vehicle". It continues and says that: "An equalizing or any other form of weight distribution hitch Should Not Be Used with a Range Rover.":hello:

Just an FYI...

We picked up the camper the other day and followed the instructions in the Rover's OM, by raising the Rover and setting the inhibitor (so it wouldn't move up or down while driving.)
We then hooked the camper up and I watched the rear of the Rover sag just a bit and I quickly thought, I can live with that. But then the Rover's rear end lifted on its own, raising it and the camper to the ideal height. Needless to say I was amazed! and wife fell in love with her Rover once again!!!
I drove towed the camper the 10 miles home and it had NO troubles towing it. That being said, there were no signifigant hills to speak of. Although, they left the fresh water tank full so the weight was well over the 3700 lbs dry weight.

See ya's on the board!

Just a wee bit of advise, make sure to check all fluids on your Rover before and after each tow... I would also check during any long stops.

If going up any major hills or mountains, please watch your temp gauge.

That's great to hear man! :proud: well, I also had that same question regarding towing but I lost my manual and still researching for some answers, thanks that I found this awesome post. I'm still waiting for my new hitch that I ordered from our local car parts shop.I cant wait to do that same thing you did. wish me luck! :)

In May I towed a 1986 Jaguar Vanden Plas on a car trailer from NJ to MA with no problems at all with my 2008 LR3. Good pick-up and speed considering the weight, suspension fine, all gauges in normal ranges, etc. That was about 5500 lbs plus the trailer. But, as noted by RobertColunga, check your fluids regularly and have things checked out before and after long tows.
