Tailgate Actuator

Hey Everyone,
I have a 2012 LR4 and the tailgate no longer opens. Here is where it gets interesting. I had a mechanic at an independent garage that works on import cars quote me $850 for the repair of the switch and actuator. The LR dealer quoted $650 for the same repair. (How often does that happen)
My questions are:
Has anyone else had to replace these parts
How much was the cost, and
Is this something I can do myself?

Seems like this problem was more common on the LR3s, but could just be that they are older.

Mine failed just after I packed up the LR4 with junk from my cleaning out my mom's basement. Nothing like unloading it all out the side doors.

I had the dealer repair mine since it was still covered under warranty. They knew exactly where to drill a hole to release the locked tailgate. They did have to replace the carpeted tailgate panel as well.

Very common issue and our LR3 had the same problem occur.
