I found this really good site on d2's and I dont think its such a good idea to put 285 65 18's on a stockish d2. I wish that I knew someone who wanted to trade me 16's for 18's. Has there ever been a land rover swap meet? Where is a good place to pick up rims for these other than the dealer?

Try the classifieds ("Parts Wanted") section of this site, or www.lrx.com, or www.disccoweb.org, or www.disco2.com, www.roversnorth.com, etc. -- those sites all have classifieds / want ad sections that you can post in, and people are sometimes looking to get rid of 16's for 18's.

Just to confirm, I tried to install 285's on my 99 with a 3" lift and couldn't turn. The biggest tire you can use is a 245/75/16 without a lift.

You could also try 255x70x16 BFG it's a wider tyre with nearly the same height as the 245's (30.05" as to 30.4")
