this is just a useless thread about a pet peeve of mine. did you notice that every new car on the road (especially trucks/suv's) have the side intake vents. while sitting in traffic today i noticed a ford super duty, escalade, and a buick that all have the "fender intake duct vent." my guess is that they all just want to be land rovers and cant think of any styling on their own...

for some of you that have dwelled on this earth longer than i have, how far back do you remember a vehicle with a side intake vent? who started this trend. I can sleep happy knowing that my side intake serves a purpose. :stupid:

i dont know why it bothers me at all, i dont even really care. feel free to chime in and tell your thoughts.

The E46 BMW M3 (intro'd in 2001) had side fender vents (not sure they were intakes). Since then, I have seen many vehicles with those (including some Honda Civics that added them after the fact :stupid:).

I'm betting the Land Rover family is one of the few automakers that actually makes that intake/vent functional.

BTW - I actually like the look. And I wish the LR3 had it on both sides (even if the second one wasn't functional).

i agree. both sides would be nice.
and yes, i have noticed it on a LOT of vehicles lately. didn't realize that most of them weren't connected as intakes! that's funny....

1967 Mustang comes to mind, but I'm not sure if those were functional either. ...and they barely qualified as full-on side vents.

I think buicks had the signature portholes on the side of the front fender going back to late 40's.

You can always buy a 2nd one for your LR3 at Pep Boys or AutoZone....its in the same isle as the Curb Feelers.

Now that Taurus' have them their cool-factor is going way down. It's hard to associate any cool factor with any part of a Taurus.
