Greetings Landrovians, yesterday I bought a GAP tool and just wanted to do an unscientific survey on what the common uses are for that device. I bought it so I could do the service reset and calibration of the air suspension. But, I'm sure there are dozens of things I can do with it.

I own a 2013 LR4 and noticed on a 2014 model that when you turn the vehicle off, the truck lowers into access mode which I thought was pretty cool. It would be great if I could make that change on my truck with The GAP tool. I also wish that my truck would give me the chirp sound when I lock it up with the key fob. Will the GAP tool configure that on my truck?

A few years back I owned another vehicle and installed a ScanGauge which was permanently hooked up to the ODB and I could see such things as oil temperature and other things going on with the engine in real time. I read that you cannot do this with the GAP tool?

Thanks for your input!

Also, Lucky8 gave me a little bit of a discount so I purchased it for $487 shipped. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

So far, I've only used mine to reset the service interval (twice) and to reset my battery when I installed a new one. I will absolutely use it when my TPMS sensors invariably run out of batteries.

You sure about that? I don't have a 2014 but that is news to me.

You can do this. Can't remember if it's through the GAP tool or just in the built-in LR4 menu. I had it do this for a while, but thought it was annoying after a bit and reverted back.

Not sure about oil temperature specifically, but you can use it to monitor a lot of things on the vehicle.

Other thinks I have used it for:

Read fault codes.

Temporarily adjust ride height.

Program new keys.

Re-calibrate ECU when installing new battery.

Remove limitation whereby you cannot have fog lights and brights on at the same time.

Tell ECU that I have Xenon headlights installed, after I bought used xenon housings to replace my halogen ones. If I ever change out to the 2014+ housings, I can use the GAP tool to activate the daytime running LEDs.

Service mode when replacing rear brake rotor.

And probably a few other things I can't think of right now.

You can make the horn chirp and view oil temperature.

There’s a list on GAPs website that will let you view all of the basic functions. The user manual is pretty good as well.

2014s don't automatically lower to access mode when you turn them off (unless you are inside the car and push the access height button), the EAS of the 2014s behave no different than they did on earlier model years. Perhaps you saw the car self level (something our 2013s often do as well shortly after you park - they do lower somewhat, nowhere near access height unless something is wrong with the suspensions...), but you can't get the car to automatically do that AFAIK, with or without GAP tool.

Mine chirps - a short honk from the horn, really - if I press the lock button a second time. The first time it doesn't, it just flashes the blinkers (and folds the mirrors if you have that feature enabled) as usual. The honk on second lock press is useful if you are walking away and can't see / don't want to turn around and look at the car anymore, but want to make sure you locked it. That can be enabled with IIDTool as well.

Reset transmission adaptations

Display digital speedometer readout

Adjust speedometer correction factor for varying tire diameter

Calibrate suspension after sensor replacement

Place into "tight tolerance mode" for alignment

Adjust suspension height at each corner

Save 2 different suspension height settings for easy recall

Dump all air from the suspension to put the truck on the bumpstops

Re-flash ECU's.

That is just off the top of my head.

There are a ton of useful features built into the tool.

Patrick has also been very responsive to technical inquiries in my experience.

I had a 14 and now have a 15 and neither have the ability to lower when turning off.

Things I have have done with the tool:
*added towing hitch and harness and turned on all the towing features with the tool
*Raised height
*Monitored and reset faults that happen from time to time
*Turned spare wheel TPMS sensor off
*Changed headlight to 'always on' when car is in drive
*Input wheel dimensions for accurate speedometer/odometer

And... my favorite: Programmed a used keyfob in less than a minute.
