Screw that crap (LR prices). I'd take a not too favorite box wrench, cut off then Tig welded a square drive onto it. A cheap tool you'll never use again anyway.
Sunnen 1/2 ton transmission jack the best tool to own when owning a LR. Eight 9" x 9" x 24" long structural beams (EFCO SUPER STUD) filled with bolt holes with chocks allowing any vehicle lifting height bolted together be it frame, suspension (axles) or under mounted tyres.
A solid secured vehicle you can yank around with safety. I hate 3 legged jack stands after seeing a fire rescue removing a person after an engine install went bad knocking the truck off the stands.

Followed your adventure, sorry to read your "tapping out" when your almost there. Relocate stands then pull the diff.
Almost sounds like a job for Mr. Hole Saw making a vent hole through the firewall "if" that's what it took to get at those bolts. Compact tight spaces, try working on any *** car especially a Subaru engine.

PS, dad called my 95 D1 the "Limey Lemon" except the 215 Olds engine he used to modify and hot rod years ago. Same engine attraction had me and why the LR purchase, the 5 spd closed the deal.....~~=o&o>......

Yes, was literally two dozen bolts away from done...but four of those f’ers were behind a diff that I am unwilling to move, so she’s all patched up now and will be running her tomorrow to get a proper job done. $1000 is a good deal and I will be grateful to pay it.

It’s a job that anyone can do, I just don’t have that kind of time. Special tool is unnecessary but I have one now if I ever need one...like when I buy an LR3. Convinced that’s my next truck in the quiver...preferably one that needs a solid rebuilt trans and one that I get for a song!

Truck is promised back in my hands tomorrow PM. Can’t wait... been fighting transmission issue since day 1 with her. More than ecstatic

Seems to again support the body off method.

It’s like waiting for Christmas morning.

Original untouched pair of Medium Riser 427 Ford FE was a surprise gift from the wifey for Christmas. Only took three years of wish list notes to sink in getting into the wifey's poker winnings, i'm worth it.....~~=o&o>.......

She’s back! Shifts are crisp, no shudder! Case closed.

My guy said he’ll never do another one...but he got it buttoned up just like it was. He did a new bridge seal and sleeves and put my metal pan on the new transmission.

He went in from underneath.

I’m very happy and only $1600 lighter.

Body off, if you are brave enough, but it was worth the $ for me to have him do it.

Now to figure out what to do with this used trans...I think valve body is good as are solenoids (new). Transmission is also good, as far as I know. Failure was in torque converter.

I would pay $1,600.00 before I did that one myself in the garage.

I gotta say, I’m a week in and it’s like I’ve got a new truck! So thankful to be on the other side of the swap. Highly recommended if you’ve got torque converter shudder. Soooooo smooth!
