I have the OEM hitch and wiring and dammit if I don't scrape skin off my knuckles every time I try to uncouple the trailer wiring from the vehicle. It's so close to the razor-sharp plastic moulding of the bumper cover. If I'm towing often, I put on an extension adapter and let it dangle.

You don't need wiring for a bike rack that attaches to a hitch. Way over ****.

The bolt in receiver on Amazon looks like it will do the job you want. If you get too close to the bumper you may hit your shin. It will stick out some. The one that you can buy from Land Rover is removable but as you say much less expensive.

LRNA says that using a Rhino or other hitch bar will lessen the max weight the truck can carry.

Interesting. I have not seen that before. Do you have a link to a document you can share?

I have not seen an Rhinohitch in person, but my understanding is that they attach to the factory receiver in the same manner as the factory tow adapter, but then curve up to also attach to the factory recovery point. Seems like the load capability would be the same, if that is correct.

I bought a used LR tow hitch off eBay and rebuilt it myself. I've only used it for a bike rack, but didn't want a tow hitch that couldn't actually tow if need be.

What exactly has to be rebuilt? I thought it just clipped in the opening ?

There's a spring mechanism inside that can get gunked up over time if the hitch is left installed on the vehicle and exposed to all the elements. If it starts sticking, it's a PITA to get the hitch off.

Powerful UK has a youtube clip on how to rebuild the British version, which is the same inside as the American version.

Ahh, got it. I've been meaning to pick up one of the factory hitches for when I need to carry more than one bike.
