So apparently my car has a fuel leak on the top of the tank. Mechanic shop said they cant even let my wife drive it out cuz it could catch on fire.
Assuming there is a hole in the top of the tank, or some associated part, how much could this end up costing me? I dont want to get taken advantage of. also, anything i need to know going blind into this situation? I say that because i’m in Arkansas, while this is going on in Houston with my wife in that vehicle. I have attached the images that the mechanic shop sent me.
i purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle. Is a leaking fuel tank the sort of thing warranties cover? I barely got the car like a month or two ago. Any advice will be appreciated. Especially any advice that may help reduce the costs of possible repairs. Thank you guys!

You'd have to look at the warranty specifics to find out if they would cover it. I would think this is something they'd cover as it's not exactly wear and tear. To diagnose this and fix it would require them dropping the tank. Odds are the leak is on the filler neck not the tank itself. I'd ballpark it as a $1500-2000k job without knowing exactly where the leak is coming from. Did they give you any idea of the cost?

They did not. I DID find out that they cover a few other things like control arms and bushings and a few other things i thought i would have tonpay for myself. I wonder if they would cover the crossover tubes everyone says i need to replace.

Here is the info for my warranty.

Maybe u can make more sense of it than i can.

Looks like they're fairly vague on the "fuel system" but if it covers the pump that would require pulling the tank out anyhow. So I'd say get a detailed work estimate from the mechanic, call the warranty company and see where it goes.

I would guess the locking ring on top of the tank is cracked. Several here have experienced it, including myself.

I paid about 45 bucks for the ring and gasket. My Indy charged me about 115.00 to install them. With a lift and a trans Jack, he had it done in about an hour while I waited.
