Oh, but at least here in Europe, the max load for the KO2s is lower than for the S/T Maxxes - 1250 kg as opposed to 1360 kg. Roughly an 800 lb difference for the set of four - just may save you on that rocky mountain trail. So while I'm sporting the KO2s for easier trips - just for the looks, basically - I will keep relying on the S/Ts for anything serious and far away from home. The more that it is then easier to put the 2nd spare on the roof, where every inch of space counts, as does every pound of weight.

I can't but recommend Troy's article to everyone. As said elsewhere, I've run the Compos + Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx 265/60/18 tyres over more than 30.000 km of difficult Central Asian terrain (and including asphalt so horribly potted it put any mountain track to shame) with the car very heavily loaded and have experienced no issues.

Interestingly, I do also have a vibration - in both front wheels, especially the left - but only when turning to park the car on asphalt or cement surfaces. Has anyone experienced that?

Do you have trip logs or a website or anything where you've posted this info on your trips? They sound incredible!!

Though it didn't start this way, after a couple thousand miles have had some trouble getting the wheel from not vibrating. Hoping this last road force balance has done the trick.

I took your advice and found a local shop with the road force balancing equipment.

1) wow, it's expensive - $380!
2) it didn't help the vibration I'm experiencing with my Cooper S/T MAXX tires running on the 18" LR3 wheels on my LR4 (with spacers).

I've already tried pulling the wheels AND tires off and running a completely diff set of 19" LR4 wheels and road tires and that was perfect - no vibration at all - which makes me think that it's not driveline.

So I guess I just put up with the hum/vibration (36mph on the nose!) of the Coopers forever or I swap them off. But they're so darned good as [mention]navigare [/mention] knows!

I'm getting ready to do that same. Got a vibration I can't seem to shake at about 55-65-ish. Been back to the shop for balancing twice. Might just put it back to stock and sell it....just acquired an Ultra4racing 4600 spec truck based on an '89 RRC which is far more fun

Hey quick question cutting the frame horns (I have some running as well) will that change and reduce frame stiffness or strength? Once cut I would also worry about the debris dirt, water that gets logged in the area. Any thoughts, can you take pictures of the cuts themselves?

Needed to cut the frame horns as I experienced significant rubbing at full lock.

I just welded a small plate/patch over that area and rattle canned it to prevent rust. Can't speak to the frame "changes" but I highly doubt it would have any impact on stiffness or strength. Might have some impact on tire entering footwell in an offset crash but that is hypothetical at best. Definitely a "do at your own risk" kind of thing.
