(Posted this before I saw the above post) I’d investigate a little further before giving up. Doesn’t really sound like a rod to me, but tough to tell from a video. Could still be the supercharger coupler.

Uploading a video of my own engine on cold start for reference. I don’t hear the same clacking sound, but its still noisy as hell (and my sc coupler has been replaced).

Since the seller is willing to fix these issues before the sale, maybe you could just explain your concern with that particular noise but that you’d like to buy the car if fixing the issues mentioned above remedies the noise and no other issues are discovered.

Do you actually have records of the oil changes (or receipts if he was doing himself)? 65K miles is really low miles for a timing chain to go out on a 2016 model (which had the updated timing chain guides). Makes me wonder why. If he wasn’t changing the oil and that’s the reason for timing chain wear, then you might also have wear on other components (piston rings, rod bearings, etc.).

Still possible its not the timing chain itself. Could be a vvt solenoid. Could also be a stuck valve.

Yeah, seems really weird that this is happening on the updated guides even with regular oil changes.

I do get a little clank on incline on cold start, but nothing like that. If that guy is going to cover ALL repairs, hey. Make sure the work is warrantied!

I have all of the JLR documentation for service. It looks like oil changes were completed on schedule. I'm also confused as to why 2016 timing chains are acting up this early, and I'm definitely a bit nervous about other potential issues (rings, rod bearings). I'll see what mechanic thinks, and see if I can get seller to agree to fix all issues before sale. Thanks guys. I will post videos so there is more info for everyone.
