Hello,

Like many other LR4 owners I believe the bushings in my control arms are beginning to wear.

Looks like the local Rover dealership and many online outlets sell bushings and ball joints. Why don’t many people seem to purchase them? Seems like most on here just purchase new control arms that contain bushings.

My issue is quality, many of these are cheap and don’t seem to last. I’d rather take the time to remove the bushings and fit brand new Rover or OEM supplier parts then reinstall.

Have others gone this route? Yes it’s more time consuming but IMO a better solution. What am I missing…

They rust weld themselves on. The control arm bolts are nearly impossible to get out.

My car is generally pretty rust free, but I took a hackzall to my control arms to get the damn bolts off. It just wasn't going to happen without cutting them. Most shops cut them as well. Buy OEM arms if you're worried about quality.

The rear, front control arm bushings can be changed with the arm mounted in the vehicle. There is no need to buy a complete arm, when replacing the bushing is a cheaper option.

I live in a climate with 0 snow, ice or road salt so there’s no rust on mine. Hopefully they come out easily.

the arm itself rusts in many spots, compromising the structure. In particular, the ball joint end. It's easier just to replace the entire thing.

Just had my bushings replaced by the dealer and they put in all new control arms as well. Likely for the reason @TrinidadLR4 mentioned, it’s just easier to do the whole unit

Good luck pressing the bushings while mounted on vehicle. There is a reason people replace the whole arm.

Air chisel will get the bushings out in 2 minutes. Another 3 to install the new bushings. Just takes the right tools.
