Looking back at my standard of living and my lifestyle, I realize I've always been a "duct tape and baling wire" kind of guy. No choice. Had to make ends meet by whatever means necessary. That develops a low-level resourcefulness of sorts, but there are some things that only a little cash can fix.
Now I may be coming into "a little cash" in the not too distant future, but not enough to fundamentally upgrade my standard of living and lifestyle. If so, I would have the means to let the pros do the major preventative maintenance, but then I would be heavily upside down on a 13-year-old luxury, off-road, SUV. Get rear ended by some kid gazing at his cell phone at high speed and that investment is gone in an instant. That's not something I can control or protect myself against.
Given all that, I'm thinking maybe I need to pick up a set of tools and learn to use them. Might be the only way Land Rover ownership makes any sense for a guy like me.
