Disco mike: had a friend post this thread earlier today. Now there are no codes showing. It would not start this morning on the first attempt. Had to get to work. Opened the hood to look for anything obvious. Pushed the accelerator down to see if it were gas logged and needed clearing... -

1995 Discovery throwing 03 code
I have a 1995 discovery that would not start this morning, 140,000 miles. got it started. looked under passanger seat has 03 code, what does this mean? Also does not idle. runs ok, pleanty of power, please respond. Thank you. oxygen sensor maybe? -

Yes if just pulling the pan add 4,38 quarts with filter another .5 quarts. ( put in what one takes out. Obviously 10 quarts doesn't come out unless one pulls the lines . -

Exactly 4.38 quarts anymore than that and you will have to drain some off. Start with 4 quarts start engine I think you'll find I'm correct. -

Avoid getting so close to the traffic lite allow room in an intersection for emergency vehicles. In michigan right turn on red is permited by then I'm looking out the driver side window. Just saying and be safe. -

Question on gas grade
Urq: sorry to hear that. Seems to me if I bought a vehicle in a state that they would want to provide the given octane required after all less emissions I would think. And taytum: my book calls for 93 so that's what I use every fill up and I don't know why but I prefer shell. -

See now taytum 98 I told you there was a bunch of reasons to use 93 octane. They know of what they speak. -

Bunch of reasons to use higher octane. It'll cost you more in my opinion to repair the damage of a low octane. -

Automatic transmission fluid.
Wolf: sorry for the confusion but you got it right: I change the transmission oil or at least 4 3/4 quarts every 6,000 miles and the filter every 30,000. I'd change the filter a little more often say 25,000 but it's so much fun to do that I refrain myself( just kidding). And yes I hardly... -

Batt. Replacement
If you bought it used maybe. There should be a plastic card in the owners manual that has the code on it. You get three trys I think before your out of luck. Then one has to wait before one can initialize code again. If you don't have the code I would think a dealer could look it up somehow... -

removing air dam and fog lights
My air dam looks much better hanging up in our pole barn rafters. Took it off several years ago. Discoveries look much better without. No appreciable difference in cooling. Fashioned conveyor material and mudflap material to house side marker lites. Been stopped by other discovery owners... -

Greg: I didn't think there was a crankshaft position sensor mines a 95. After I read the thread I went thru my factory service manual and electronic manual and yes supposedly I have one. Never looked for it but it does show one hope it doesn't go bad as it sounds difficult to get to from posts... -

CPS should test approximatley 300-400 ohms as a general rule of thumb. That is with an accurate ohmeter. -

Automatic transmission fluid.
Change my filter every 30 thousand or so. Every other engine oil change (every 3 thousand miles) I change out the 4 and 3/4 quarts of transmission filter. 139,000 on my ride and it shifts real smooth. The transmission fluid is very clear red and the magnetic drain plug stays clean. Might be... -

Too cold in my garage at present time so I'm not going to attempted it at present time. In a quandery as to the clear screws. Will they leave a blemish mark if removed later? I assume so. If so I'd rather pull the whole thing down and make it look like the cash cab or put up a disco ball... -
