Well, todays LR adventure is a starting issue.

I drive the Rover on Sunday and parked it in the drive. Went to start it yesterday and all I got was a relay click. Battery reading was around 12.5 per GAP which was low IMO so I pulled it this afternoon and had it tested at AutoZone.

Tested good.

So now I’m scratching my head. Thinking it could be the starter & recall there was one start on Sunday that took an extra crank.

But, it’s a Rover so I’m doubting it could be the easy & straightforward diagnosis (starter).

Any way to test a starter if I pull it before purchasing a new one?

Do you have a way to try and get more voltage to your battery like a portable jump starter or jumper cables with another car?

These vehicles are really sensitive to power. How old is your battery?

Maybe the ground strap or the starter relay. I’d double check the battery first. You should see about 12.6v with the engine off (leave everything off for about 10 minutes, hood open. Then test with multimeter. If you have a multimeter with max/min function, you can leave it hooked up and check cranking volts as well. Should be no lower than about 9v.

Take a look at the attached pic regarding the battery…

That battery warning I believe is normal, I've seen it before when I'm in the car; have the radio playing and the engine's not running. The car will do a lot to stop auxiliary systems from draining the battery. I'd take the advice already provided and try to add axillary power to the battery; likewise, check the ground strap.

All the ground wires & terminals are tight & none have corrosion.

I keep hearing about a 400a fuse for the stater. Anyone have pics of said fuse?

FYI: I’ve got the stiff brake pedal.
This is going to happen without the engine running to provide vacuum.

Make sure you press a little harder to allow the starter to engage for future attempts.
