Anyone end up buying their Grenadier order

imho, the D5 design has grown on me. I drove a 22 with the petrol ingenium 6/MHEV. It was fantastic. road manners were good, it was quiet as a church mouse; did not take it off road but i see others report it is pretty capable. Interestingly around here it seems to not be the fafshionable LR. There are defenders everywhere but only a few D5s and most seem to be several years old as they sport the Si6 badging. I doubt LR ever fixed the v6 timing chain issues and the plastic cooling pipe issues on that engine so it is a no go.

I have now spotted about 5 grenadiers tooling around. Design is ok but looks a bit overdone. For the $$, i think i would rather buy an old defender and restore it...

I saw more Defenders than I ever saw D5s within about two months of the Defender being on the market. The Defender is a sales home run for Land Rover; the D5 is a dud.

I've seen multiple Grenadiers now. To me, it all depends on what options people went with. Having sat in an old, original Defender, there's no way I could own one. I'm 6'5" and it would be impossible for me to drive it.

The dealer closest to me has 6 D5's in stock....and 24 Defenders (90, 110, 130 variants, 1 is v8). It's a 'tell'.

If JLR made the new D5 all electric, and made it look close to a LR4 I'd be interested... as long as they can do it correctly and give it plenty of range.

I just picked up a Rivian R1T and everything is engineered so well, it all works together, everything has a purpose, and it should do great off road (haven't tried that part yet)

I like the idea of electric but the infrastructure is sorely lacking. A proper PHEV or Hybrid would be more appealing to me if done right by JLR.

I really like the R1T, a couple of my neighbors have them and couldn't be happier... (congrats!).

As far as an EV being a little more like my LR4, if I had an extra $175K laying around (emphasize extra) I might go for one of these latest Gelandewagens (the EV). I've always liked them, and MBZ's in general. It's a bit range challenged, but soon to be able to access Tesla superchargers. I don't drive all that far anyway, and trips are usually done at 36K feet. It's impressive- 4 motors 579 HP/ 859 lb ft.; "rotate within it's own length like a tank" (bout as solid as one too); "climb 45 degree slope" (those German engineers). And they're now a lot more comfortable than the ones I've driven in the past. Could be nice...

Submitted all the stuff to put my LR4 on Cars and Bids. After going through that, it's clear why all the listings there look similar. You do not write your own listing but rather Cars and Bids just asks you to answer specific questions and then they write the listing around that.

Decided to keep some of the aftermarket stuff on it for the sale. Defender steelies, dog guard in the back, shelf in the back, Terrafirma sliders, and ARB air compressor under the hood. We'll see how it does.

Since this topic has gotten so broad, and while I love the R1T too, especially here in CA where there's lots of charging infrastructure, I've been really really interested in the new '24 Silverado Bison 3.0 diesel. Never been a GM person, but it looks like a really convincing overland package with the torque and mileage to go the distance.

Before I put money down on the 250 series Land Cruiser I gave some serious consideration to a ZR2 Bison. Talk about a good-looking truck.

My issue with every truck I drive, though, is that the seating position is noticeably worse than I'm used to. Always feels like I'm sitting in a bathtub instead of up high with a "commanding" view of the road.

The ZR2 also still has rear leaf springs. Every time I drive a truck with rear leafs I can certainly feel it over bumps. It's fine for a third-car toy, but not a daily driver.

The ZR2 has lockers in it, but its a truck. I walked past a new Bronco today with big 35" tires. It was a nice blue, but more offroad than I need. The solid axles compramise ride quality and its missing the sport factor. If I had the $65k I still would get the LR4 lol.

The Bronco is IFS. Only has a solid axle in the rear. Ride isn't LR4-like, but it isn't terrible either.

My issue with the Bronco is the view out the front is limited. The windshield is pretty short.

The Land Cruiser I have a deposit on is supposed to arrive sometime between June 7 and July 5. I have read where some peoples' are getting held up at the port, however. Who knows. I'm not really in too big a rush.

The people who have already received theirs love them, though. You can fit 17" wheels and 35" tires on them without any modifications. Here's one with the front bumper trimmed a little:
