If the market was always right, we'd all be Jeep Sheep. Niche vehicle drivers don't give a rat's onager about the market.

Until you can't find parts in North America for your unicorn euro diesel. The fact of the matter is the D5 was a step backwards and the sales reflect that which is why you are in a D4 forum telling us about how great your D5 is. There is no activity in the D5 forum :) Then again perhaps you are brilliant and the rest of the off road market is wrong. Who knows.

D5 was a bust.

I really wanted to like that car, but the design isn't right.

Then I wanted the diesel, but they're not reliable...

I don't see how Land Rover keeps the D5 going. Who is buying that car anymore? It has to be big dealer incentives.

Seems like the Defender or the Range Rover Sport would be much better choices depending on what you wanted a D5 for.

I wanted the D5 diesel but was turned off by the catastrophic crank failures and the shape of the rear end.

That rear end makes me want to slap the ascot right off of Gerry McGovern.

The D5 TD6 is not too bad. Friends wife had one and we used to borrow it on weekends to toodle around. I heard that the Discovery line was up for a refresh soon. Maybe they will follow the trend and go back to the boxier look.

The LR3 and the LR4 were more or less the exact same design, and those lasted 11 years (LR3 was from 2005 to 2009, and LR4 was from 2010 to 2016).

The D5 started in 2017, so in vehicle model years it's 8 years old. It's probably due.

At first, I thought Land Rover believed there was only room for one boxy vehicle. They knew the Defender was going to be it, so they moved the Discovery line into the more rounded aesthetic. But Land Rover should realize there's room for two boxy vehicles in its lineup. Just a more refined Defender. Spare under the back instead of on the back. Interior less "off road rugged" design and more luxury. It's clear from the sales numbers the Discovery line needs a kick in the pants.

imho, the D5 design has grown on me. I drove a 22 with the petrol ingenium 6/MHEV. It was fantastic. road manners were good, it was quiet as a church mouse; did not take it off road but i see others report it is pretty capable. Interestingly around here it seems to not be the fafshionable LR. There are defenders everywhere but only a few D5s and most seem to be several years old as they sport the Si6 badging. I doubt LR ever fixed the v6 timing chain issues and the plastic cooling pipe issues on that engine so it is a no go.

I have now spotted about 5 grenadiers tooling around. Design is ok but looks a bit overdone. For the $$, i think i would rather buy an old defender and restore it...

I doubt there will be a D6 in an ICE format. LR pulled the diesels for LR in 2022? and we didn't get the good D300. Defender will now be under attack from the Toyota onslaught of the new 4Runner/Land Cruiser/Lexus GX550. LR does not have the development budget to stay with Toyota. LR will be a good choice for those of us that want a quirky choice but long term development and support does not look good.
