Interesting. Just opening the (already unlocked) rear door would turn them on? The car was off for hours when I went to check. Time for another test!

I never checked this. It would be amazing if true on my 2013. I hate that my phone charger turns off with the main socket once the relay times out. My BMWs sockets all stayed live with the car off.

You can remove the square relay on the passenger side fuse box and jump it (that's what I did, anyway) if you want front, center and cargo sockets to stay live with the engine off. IIDTool will record a "bad relay" trouble code every time you check for faults, but other than that - and the fact you could conceivably run your battery flat by leaving a power hungry device plugged into one of those sockets for a long time, of course - no adverse effects.
