I thought about doing this several times... with the cost of this little jewel, I found it better to leave it alone.

Is it okay to clean it, and how would one go about cleaning it? I would hate to spray cleaner in it and find out I was not supposed to.

It worked like a charm for me. (thanks Joey). No "check engine" light since I cleaned it. Use Quick dry electrical parts cleaner. It will dissolve all the dirt but leave no residue.
