Changed the oil yesterday at around 4k miles but over a year, and when I pulled the filter, it left the bottom plastic in the filter housing, and left me staring at the state of the adhesive on the filter. Makes me wonder if the adhesive had given out some time ago.

Decades ago as a teenage parts delivery boy Wix was the *******. All the quality parts shops, farmers, all wanted wix.

I pulled out the wix oil filter last time out and couldn't fit the new filter in. Confused, I found the filter came apart and the plastic of the filter was stuck inside the engine block. The goose that laid the golden egg, made in CHINA now. Planning to buy Land Rover oil filter and afraid of the cost, can't bring myself to buy Fram or Purolator, etc

I've been getting the Hengst from FCPEuro. Had to move away from their oil change kits, as they mix up the filters and then the prior return doesn't work because they only do like-for-like. The kits are just a handy way of ordering the stuff, but it's the individual parts that count towards the lifetime guarantee. No issues with the Hengst so far.

Hengst or JLR from FCP for me too.
Just sent back 3. Even with inflation adjusted it's about $8 per filter. ( Lifetime warranty replacements cost more than original purchase).

I paid about $30 for my chitty Wix filters at Orielly, the Hengst is half that cost. I wonder if NAPA Gold is now re-labled china wix. At one time NAPA had Wix build their filters with their own specs a little dumbed down compared to the name brand. I wouldn't be surprised if it fell apart. Here is a side view of my old filter and I question if the filter was even working properly because the filter separated with a horizontal crack, only 5k miles and 3-5 months

Glad, in a sad way, that I’m not alone. What is considered a good filter then? Go strict JLR, or Hengst, Purolator, Mahle, or…? And how do you know you’re not getting counterfeit? Amazon lists Hengst filters from Atlantic British for $18, but at the actual AB web site, they don’t even list that brand.

I feel like the chance of getting counterfeit junk from Amazon is a lot higher than if you were to order directly from a place like Atlantic British or FCPEuro. With the lifetime warranty thing FCPEuro offers it's hard to beat the total cost of oil changes.
