does the heater core get blocked up and cause overheating?

my 2001 range rover hse overheats in two minutes. this morning i turned on my rover for about a minute the temp needle was in the middle, then i turned it off.

I could hear like a boiling or fffhhhshhhh sound coming out of the area where the heater core is at behind the glove compartment. like pressure is escaping

i squeeze the top hose of the radiator and it is cool and feels like it has nothing in it.
i squeeze the hoses going and coming from the heater core and they are hot.

could it be that water is beaing blocked in the core?

COULD I JUST bypass the heater core (i never use the heater where i live the coldest it ever gets here is 75)

How do i bypass it.

thanks ahead of time!!!!
