My newly acquired 2000 Discovery II has HID headlights lights installed, was this ever a factory option ? Am I to assume this is an aftermarket kit? The reason I ask is because my high beams do not work, so if it is just an aftermarket kit I will probably just remove it rather than trying to repair it.

Correct this is an aftermarket kit... they were not installed from the factory on a 2000 model year.

Do your HID's have both high and low beams?
I installed a set in my 99 and wouldn't drive with regular head lights again.

I did not have HID high beams, so since it was not a factory system I removed it yesterday. With the factory lights installed again, the high and low beams work correctly!

You can buy a high/low combination for around $130, and worth every penny of it.

I'd put back the stock lamps. Retrofitting HID's to lights designed for Halogen is against the law. If you were in or caused an accident where lighting played a factor you could very well have trouble with your insurance company.

Tom, I agree, it is against the law, only for aftermarket lights, and only because they have not been DOR certified as all the other factory HID's have been. When installed correctly they put out a huge amount of light with very little energy and are not offensive. I have run mine for short of a year and only had one person flash me and that was when it was raining quite hard. I would also say that I run the 35 watt, 6000k bulbs, not the 55's which are way to bright and offensive.
