Lock this around a door handle or I'd bet there has to a be a more hidden spot on the undercarriage like on the spare tire somewhere.

That link does not work for me. Any suggestions? I'll be in Avon in October. House is at north end. I'm 76 and too old to do the kite thing on the water, but I fly a big parafoil on the beach for exercise. We sure enjoy watching you youngsters!

I had the same dilemma for surfing and bought a Hitch Safe (hitchsafe.com) . Looked like and awesome solution - no keys needed just a combo. After I ordered it from Amazon, I read a post that it does not fit the LR hitch receiver. Now I can either try to modify and make it fit or sell it and try something else.
I also read on some other forums that some surfers put it in their pocket all the time and just make sure to rinse it w/ fresh water after. I have some small waterproof pouches i am going to wrap the fob in and put in my boradshorts pocket and hope for the best unless there is a better way.http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

MST,

I bought the Hitch safe and spent an hour filing it so it would fit in backwards - the pegs will not line-up otherwise. I got it to fit, but then the pegs were not long enough to secure the safe. Frustrated, I put it into our FFRR hitch, where it fits perfectly.

I would recommend putting it back its box and returning it, unless you can fit it in somewhere.

I've given-up on the LR3. On my Cayman, they provided a valet key that I put in a Masterlock safe that I looped around a wheel spoke or sway bar end-link; the LR3 key is to thick to fit in the Masterlock safe. With the FFRR, I put the key in the Hitch Safe, which works fabulously. When I go surfing with the LR3, I hide the key in the rear-bumper; as I agree that it is too think to fit in the wetsuit key pocket.

I figured out a way to make the Hitch Safe work. It involved a Dremel tool, paint, and longer pins which are available online. I will post pics tomorrow......

MST,

I just ordered the longer pins too, your post inspired me to check the site for updates and I saw the longer pins for the Tacoma hitch. Our you mounting in backwards, with the safe facing inward?

bgsntth,
I cut out part of the collar so it would accommodate the angle of the hitch. It took some cutting w/ my Dremel. I also had to cut the rubber cap which had some metal in it for rigidity. This way, you do not have to cut new holes for alignment. This is not he finished product - which is painted and smoothed over a bit. When attached, it looks stock. Excuse the rough cuts as I am not a master of the Dremel tool. I will post finished pics tomorrow.

Hey, thanks for the pics, and way to get aggro with the power tools. Beats my hand-file fix, which means, I still have to mount in backwards.
