Does it have a history of starting problems?
When you looked at the battery & starter what do you mean? (load test, pulled the starter & bench test?)

usually if I hear a clicking, (under the hood), that leads me to a starter/battery connection being loose/dirty

luck,greg

Well we tested the battery & starter they are still good. That was what we thought first too. Do you know of what else could be going on? Thank you for the reply. :hello::biggrin:

Have you attempted to jump start it? If not, please attempt, if it jump starts, then start by cleaning the battery connections, if that doesn't work replace the battery.

ok maybe you guys can help us on this one. the battery we had in it before was to small according to the shop we brought it into, they went ahead and put a new battery in because it was throwing transmission codes,. the bigger battery fixed the codes and there was no problems until she just didnt want to start. when we had it tested napa told us that the new battery we had was too big... so i guess what i am asking is does anyone know the correct battery size? and also if it is to big would that be the problem? thanks for the help.

First no such thing as a battery that is too big... they are crazy. Too small yes, but not to big.

If the battery is good, and the starter is good, but will not turn over I would check for corrosion in the engine bay fuse box as well and make sure that you don't have any bad wires going to the ignition switch. If all is good, then you may have to find someone close that works on Rovers to check it with the rover computer (not the dealer unless you have a lot of money, or no one else is around.)

If you're getting a click when you turn the key to the start position that means the starter solenoid is engaging, which doesn't take much power (a few amps), but the starter isn't turning, which takes a lot of power (100-150amps).
This can be from one, or more, of 3 things;
a weak battery
a dying/dead starter
bad connections.
You've said the battery and starter are good.

You should check your battery ground cable, both ends, not just the battery end, and make sure they both are clean and tight. By both ends I mean also check where it connects to the chassis, not where the cable splits off and goes to the body.

Next check the ground from the starter to the chassis, both ends (when I pus a new starter in mine I got rid of the factory ground and ran the ground to the same point on the chassis that the battery connects to).

Next check the battery positive cable, both ends. Where it connects to the battery, and where it connects to the starter. Make sure both are clean and tight.

Examine all cable lugs to make sure there isn't corrosion between the cable and lug.
