It seems the issues come in bunches. I wrote earlier re shakes. Here is my new issue. The truck has started making a clunking sound when I put it into drive. I repeated this several times in the drive and my leveling system light, ABS light and several others came on. When I turned it off the battery was dead. This happened to my wife the night before. It has been making this noise for a couple of weeks. I just had time to look at it. Any ideas? 99 DII. 88,000 miles. It has done this before when I had it hooked to a boat and self leveling system operated. Had to jump it off then to. Put new battery in a little over a year ago. Perhaps a short in system somewhere? Maybe these details will help.

Could be the U-joints have gone bad on the driveshaft, a known issue on D2's, since they are not greaseable.

As far as the battery going dead, sounds to me like something is draining your battery.

Solved

Sorry for the delay in responding. I had the rotors turned to resolve the shakes. The noise was caused by ujoints in rear of front drive shaft. They are "not replaceable" so had to put in new shaft. Expensive but fixed the problem though. Thanks, Joey, you were right on in your diagnosis.

As for the discharging battery. Not sure there. Auto zone replaced the battery as it was fried. I looked for bare wires etc. but could not find any. I took the fuse out for the trailer lights as I don't pull a trailer anymore with this truck. It has not happened again even though the truck "sat down" in the garage the other night after carrying a little weight in the back. Cranked it and it pumped back up. Went down several minutes later. Cranked it again and it went back up and has stayed for the last two weeks. But the battery did not discharge. ideas? This may be a new thread!

Air bags going down, could be a leak. When it does it again try spraying the air bags with some soapy water and look for bubbles.
