here is a pic of my MPG readout... I am on cruise control doing 65mph on the 5 fwy in Northern California near Stockton (so it's pretty level country) and I am up to 20.0mpg. To show this, I attained the 65mph speed, waited a bit, then reset the trip computer to get an average reading only at this 65mph speed.

Not bad for a 300hp V8, I say.

I just did a 2000 mile round trip with my family from Denver to Dallas (825 miles one way) over the Easter Weekend. On the way down to Dallas averaging 64.4 MPH we got 18.8 MPG (slightly downhill most of the way). I noticed that the engine/trany had a sweet spot right around 2100 RPM and 77 MPH that keep the fuel economy in the 19/20 MPG range. We drove 300+ miles around the city while there and the average MPG dropped to 17.4 and the average MPH to 51.2. The way home (slightly uphill and with my mother-inlaw now in the backseat with my son) the fuel economy averaged 17.8 and MPH was 63.9. Overall I was pretty happy since the LR 3 was loaded and we did not drive much slower then when we take the BMW (OK a little slower) but the truck did great.

FYI... I purchased the Belkin iPod auto kit with dock connector (with an integrated volume control) as well as the TuneDok Car holder and they worked great. Played the iPod most of the trip, adjusted the volume to match the radio/CD volumes and mounted it in the cup holder on the passenger side. No hum, better sound then the radio, tied with the CD and it came as a package from Amazon for $42.09 delivered!

As for the GPS/Nav it is a little querky but seemed to work well if you take a little time to learn how to use it (functions and settings not always in the manual). I plugged in various addresses before we left and I then could select them on the fly while driving with no problems. I changed "regions" when we crossed into Texas and recalculated the route (the guy from NJ in previous strings could try this) and it worked fine. It even found a couple of short cuts around some of towns which saved us 20-30 minutes in travel time.

My advice to all is learn the truck and its idiosyncracies and it will perform as advertized.

I just turned over 3000 miles. As an FYI, I test drove several LR3's during my decision process each for about 1/2 day. I did notice that the demo unit with 3-4 ,000 miles got significantly better mileage 18-20 verses a new one < 500 miles (15/16 mpg) over the same general area and in the same general conditions. I am hoping that now that the truck is "broken in " and I have become accustom to driving it, that the fuel economy will be in the 15/16 city and 18/20 highway.

My LR3 just hit 4,000 miles and I have seen 2-3 mpg better than when I first purchased it. Over 18 mpg on highway, generally 14 or so on short trips around town.
