Dugebug is correct. I think everybody knows what is right, but nobody is saying it clearly.
For a given speedometer reading, the ACTUAL speed you are travelling will be faster with bigger tires and slower with smaller tires. And my above explanation wasn't too clear, but the amount faster/slower is equal to the % increase/decrease in tire overall diameter.

thanks guys. I actually found a calculator on Discount Tires website also. I assume nwoods that you had it reversed in your post because a bigger tire should show a faster speed than the stock, correct?

Umm..yes (sheepish nod), I had that reversed.

Roverman is correct.......I spit it all out wrong in my post. Anyhow, I got the Coopers put on at lunch today. What an awesome tire. Thanks nwoods for letting us know about them. I think the ride is a lot smoother for everyday driving also. Plus it fills up the wheel wells nicely.

The questions is: How accurate was your speedo to begin with? If it was slow by a couple mph, with bigger tires your speedo may be correct now.

The Coopers are still great, even on road, although I do miss my Synchrones on the highway.

I would do this trip again in a minute!

Got my new Coopers yesterday and had them mounted last night. Initial impressions are thus:
1. They look terrific!
2. They seem slightly narrower than my Nitto's, but the measurements are the same.
3. They are noticeably quieter than my Nitto's on the pavement...though that could be because the Nitto's were well worn.
4. They feel softer than the Nitto's. It's hard to describe, but bumps feel better absorbed. No tramlining that I can tell yet from the very limited time I've got on them now.

I'll have about 600 miles or so on them in the week, and then I'm going to try them out at Pismo sand dunes. Should be fun.
