okay well yesterday i picked up a 95 disco from a private party and drove it home (160 miles or so). when i got home i started to clean it up a little bit and replaced the headlight bulbs with some new piaa gt-x's.

well this morning i went out to go start my new rig up and nothing. it sounds like it wants to crank over but then nothing. i tried to start it for about 10 minutes before i got upset and pulled the battery connectors off and checked to see what the charge was.well after me trying to start it for 10 minutes with nothing i think i drained it down a bit since my charger read about 25%. so i set it on the charger and took my bike out to go do my running around. got home it read a full charge so i tossed it back in same problem. (i got it back on the charger again now)

when i first try to start it it sounds like it wants to start but then time after time of me trying to crank it over it gets weaker.

the guy i got it from said that its been having a start up issue the past few weeks. he told me that it was something to do with one of the injectors. the previous owner actually showed me what it was because when i went to go test drive it, it actually diddnt start. when he went to start it up he just bliped the throttle ever so lightly and thats what helped get it to start (i tried with no such luck today).

input on what my problem might be or anymore pointers on trouble shooting my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Injectors could be the issue.. so could a clogged fuel filter or a possible bad fuel filter.

Not to mention a dirty MAF, or the Intake butterfly could be very dirty, bad plugs and wires. The list goes on and on.

For my money I would start with a fuel filter, check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, and clean the intake.

Then I would look and leak down of the injectors. You can have them tested.... if they are bad, you have to remove them anyways to change.

well the previous owner had tacoma land rover do a turne up on the rig and has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter blah, blah, blah.

what should the fuel pressure be at 38psi? and how do i test it?

sorry for my ignorance but im coming from a dsm and subaru background with just about zero knowledge of rovers. as far as fuel pressure ive always installed adjustable fuel pressure regluators and an inline gauge to see the pressure.

as far as the maf being dirty it would still let me crank it over it it were dirty wouldnt it but would just idle like a pos? if that is my ailment how can i clean it? ive always used rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to wipe them down on my other cars to get the excessive blow by off.

im going to pull the spark plugs today to see if their is any soot on them. i was going to do it yesterday but i did have some other running around todo and i diddnt have the right size spark plug socket (i only had a 5/8"). what size are the spark plugs on rovers, they seem to be huge to me?

well by some ****** of luck i got her to start this morning after doing a few quick little things. i dont know exactly what triggered it to start but it did after a few tries. this is the exact order of events i did this morning

took the battery off of the charger (left it charging overnight)

took my intake off (found out i have a k&n panel filter)

disconnected and removed my maf

cleaned maf as it was dirty (also found out the screen is torn)
1. cleaned body with wd40 on a towel
2. cleaned the screen section my taking that section off of the main maf body and spraying it completely with wd40 and gently wiped the nasty build up off the inside and the screen with a towel

took the rest of the intake piping - intake plenum off and found my throttle body butterfly nasty as well so i cleaned it the same way i did the maf
1. sprayed wd40 in there and wiped it down really well with a shop rag

checked all spark plug wire connections again

reassembled intake

hooked the battery up

with key in the drivers side door i manually locked and unlocked the rig 4 times

it took a couple cranks to get it to start up but it finally did which had me over joyed.

any thoughts?

Not sure I would have used wd40 since it will leave a residue and may shorten the life of the MAF over time... for you sake I hope not. Don't over oil the K&N either as it is not good for the MAF.

the wd40 was lightly used, set out to dry after i wiped it down and then wiped down again.

i know all about the k&n oil causing problems with certain maf's. they do the same thing on subaru's.
