Not a common issue.

To quantify statistically, we sold a fair amount of vehicles, and I don't even have the P/S pump on the acvtive system. That means I've never ordered one, or at least in the past 14 months as the system wipes the # out after no activity.

Very interesting...

It would seem to me that they're fixing a symptom temporarily and not the cause ... maybe the dealer techs need to look a bit further beyond the obvious?

I once heard a compressor-operator tell his mechanic "I replaced the solenoid 5 times and it still won't start", the mechanic responded "maybe the problem isn't the solenoid?". Seems like this anecdote might apply.

My power steering is going out too. It's difficult to turn the wheels, slight whine, and spotty in some areas. It's strange too, often while driving it will just pull to a side. Glad I bought that extended warranty.

It will be in the dealer monday.

If it turns out to be the pump, Rover will replace it under warranty, go have them check it.

So mine ended up being the rack and pinion. Apparently, it's broke. Glad I have that extended warranty.

To update this post of mine, the rack and pinion wasn't the problem. It was the u-joint on the steering column.
