I drive around town in Sport mode because of how lathargic the throttle and power are. This helps with the throttle response and gearing. I notice when I pull up to a stop sign and am almost at a complete stop where the car goes into 1st/neutral and then I get back on the gas, on certain occasion I hear the rear end thunk as if there is slack. Every other gear and driving around is smooth as butter, except on occasion when I slow to stop and get back on it.

Any idea of how I can fix this. I dont think its a mechanical issue, possibly the transmission shift point is off. I was considering asking my dealer to do a transmission update of some sort or reset the ecu. I have an 06 model, and when I recently went in for service, he told me there were no updatesd for my car, although I find that very hard to believe on a 3 yr old model.. I think he was just giving me the run around

A relatively common issue. Mine was fixed with a transmission code reflash. 7 months since that was done, and the issue has not returned.

Some discussion here: http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=13950&page=2

Others claim it can be fixed by driving in sport mode (which I am skeptical) and your experience proves that it may not help.

Suggest you press to have it done. My '05 did have the ZF code updated once before as part of the B036 service campaign with various other updates/fixes, which did not make any difference. But I was able to get the dealership to reflash it one more time while still under warranty, and for now the problem is solved.

rambino, be curios to hear if you were able to get this fixed.

I'm present in several of those other threads. Mine was gone once for over a year, returned after a dealer service visit and has been kicking around since. I have a different SA now who is doing what he believes will fix the problem (reset my adaptions and updating my flash to most current) but it doesn't really make a difference. It is a little better after the last visit (they said I was a quart low on tranny fluid) but there is still an annoying throttle lag...

The only strange thing here is that it happens in Sport mode. Back when my '05 did this, Sport mode made things a little better.

Just got this issue fixed on my '06. I couldn't believe how much smoother it feels. I'm not even getting little jerks like I heard I might. I noticed mine while driving regular mode, and I never really tried to duplicate the problem in sport mode.

Hmm.. I just recently had my tranny software updated (at my expense out of warranty $$$) and it still "thunks", although not as bad as before. It drove great for the first day, but seems to have "corrupted" the software file again. If y'all have had the problem completely go away with another flash, I might drop by the dealer again and have them reflash it.

Hmm, makes me think I should do the same thing. I got the B036 right after purchase in May 06 and didn't really notice any difference. Since then have just tried to solve via driver input. Next time I take it in I'll ask for that reflash. Is still annoying.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the tranission adapts to your driving style. I recall reading of one case where the service tech merely took the vehicle around the block a couple of times with a heavy foot and that "reprogrammed" the transmission.

Haha, the transmission definitely "adapts" to my driving style. My lead foot seems to reprogram the transmission too often (for the worse). I really wish LR took out the adaptive "feature" of the ZF box before putting it in the LR3.
